Rio’s House
A household planning application
Rio’s House helps its users manage tasks, reminders and finances. An account holder can submit tasks by SMS, which the application saves and categorises in their account, and can configure reminders that the application sends to the number registered to that account. Each account belongs to one household and sees only that household’s data.
What it does
The application connects to a user’s financial institutions through Plaid, with their authorisation, and presents their balances, transactions and investment holdings. It also keeps a task list, where a user can give a task a due date and select a reminder schedule. Reminders are transactional: each one is generated by the application from settings that user chose.
Text messaging
Who sends:the Rio’s House application, automatically, when a reminder a user scheduled comes due. No message is composed or sent by a person.
Who receives: account holders of the application, on mobile numbers registered and confirmed within their own accounts. A number not registered to an account receives nothing.
Why: the account holder created a task in the application, gave it a due date, and chose how far in advance to be reminded. The message is that reminder. There is no marketing, no promotion and no third-party content.
How someone opts in
- The account holder signs in to their account at rios.house with Google.
- In their own account settings the account holder types their mobile number into a field that is empty by default. Nothing is pre-filled and no box is pre-checked.
- A confirmation text is sent to that number reading: “rios.house: You asked to receive task reminders on this number. Reply YES to confirm, or STOP to opt out. Msg & data rates may apply.”
- The number receives nothing further until the account holder replies
YES. ReplyingSTOP, or clearing the field in account settings, ends it immediately.
An account holder may also text the application’s number to create a task. That is a message they send, not one they receive.
Frequency: only when a reminder an account holder scheduled comes due. Typically a few messages a week, and fewer than fifteen a month.
Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.
